Keep it Local

We are proud of our status as not just a sustainable, but also an ethical caterer. Wherever possible we use small, independent businesses much like ourselves and believe it is vitally important to support one another, especially in the current economy.

This month we would like to introduce you to Jonny Donovan, one of the Approved Photographers at the Horniman Museum & Gardens.

1) Tell us about your business?

I love to create beautiful images, capturing natural and candid moments filled with real emotion. I work in a reportage style, documenting and telling the story of a wedding day through pictures. I’m easy-going, friendly and unobtrusive and for most of the day my couples hardly know I’m there. Coverage of a wedding day begins with the bridal preparations and goes right through until the guests are burning up the dance-floor.

2) What area do you cover?

I cover London and the South East. And I also like to photograph one of two of destination weddings every year just to mix it up.

3) How long have you been working as a photographer?

I have been a photographer since 2008, which is a little scary as it only feels like I started yesterday! Before that I was a journalist, and that still very much informs my approach to my work today.

4) What do you feel makes you different from other wedding photographers?

I am really interested in people's relationships and those little moments that pass between them, which is the focus of most of my photography. I love to captures details and styling, but the heart of a successful wedding story for me is in its portrayal of two people in love surrounded by everyone that matters to them. Its such a fleeting moment, and such a privilege to be chosen to document it.

5) Do you have a specific style of wedding photography, or do you tend to adapt according to each couples requirements?

I always listen to my couples, because ultimately you are there to realise their vision. But I like to think my style runs through every photograph I make.

6) When clients book you for their wedding do they end up with all the edited images on a memory stick or do they have to order a specific amount of images from you?

About two weeks after the wedding day my couples receive a USB memory stick containing 300+ high-resolution photographs; each one beautifully edited by me, fully licensed for unlimited personal use. Web-ready versions of your images for social media and internet use. A slideshow set to music to play on your computer, TV, tablet or phone. And access to a password protected online gallery where your guests can view and order prints directly, wherever they are in the world. I also have a stunning range of bespoke albums and printing options available on request.

7) Do you have a favourite venue?

I prefer venues that are photogenic, of course, but they have to be relaxed and unfussy at the same time. The Horniman is definitely a favourite because it is such a visually stunning and unique place to photograph, but it also has the kind of access to nature and that sense of space that you only get in venues outside London.

8) Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about?

I have just launched my new website, which includes lots of examples of my work, including some stunning photos of a Horniman Wedding - do take a look if you have a moment!
