Introducing Katie Aitchison, Waitress


How long have your worked for Suzanne James Catering?

I have just reached my 1 year anniversary - it has gone so quickly!

What do you do?

I am one of the waitressing staff in the company, meaning I take round canap├ęs, serve sit down meals and top up drinks! I also stewarded several events last summer.

What do you love about your job?

I love meeting and interacting with people and working smoothly in a team which is essential in this job. The fast-paced pressure of the job is another thing that I love.

Having to ensure everything is running smoothly is something that keeps me busy all the time which I thoroughly enjoy.

What's your favourite food to eat?

My favourite food would have to be a lovely rare steak and dessert! I am quite a carnivore and a huge foodie. I am always up for trying new things and am very interested in all food.

If you could go back in time what food would you tell your younger self to try sooner?

Avocado! I was adamant for a long time that I hated avocados and refused to eat them despite never having actually tried them! One day I finally did and now they are one of my favourite foods - I can't get enough of them!

What did you do before you worked for Suzanne James Catering?

I am still a student, Suzanne James was my first employer, and I love it! Outside of studying and working I also provide ad-hoc childcare.

If you could dine with anyone, past or present who would it be?

Nelson Mandela, without a doubt. He is one of my idols and I think he would be remarkable company.

What do you like to do when you're not at work?

Sleep! I don't get a lot of time outside of work and school, so I go out with my friends and sleep, it's not a bad life!

What are you studying, and what are your long term ambitions?

I am currently studying Biology, Drama and Sport in my last year of school and am not entirely sure what I will do after that! I am taking a gap year within which I am checking my options: I may go to University and study physiotherapy or take a further look into hospitality.

In your opinion what makes Suzanne James Catering different from other catering companies?

The people and the quality of food. All the food is sourced from organic English products and there is such minimal waste which I really love. The people are all so friendly and that really makes the job special.
