Introducing Sharon Hurlock, Senior Waitress


How long have your worked for Suzanne James Catering?

I started at the beginning of Summer 2016 - straight into the wedding season!

What do you do?

I am a waitress, professional and experienced. Serving drinks and canap├ęs, buffet-style food and waiting on tables. I meet and greet guest, make them feel at ease and offer a very high standard of service. It's all good fun and I enjoy it.

What do you love about your job?

I enjoy meeting such a vast array of interesting people! I'm very personable, so I love the interaction with both clients and guests at our events.

What's your favourite food to eat?

I am not a vegetarian, but when I eat out I often like to choose the vegetarian option. It's not something I would usually prepare and cook at home and it's nice to try something different!

I am also a huge pudding lover and I can never resist giving into my sweet tooth when the 'dessert menu' is offered. From sticky toffee pudding with piping hot custard to citron tart with creme fraiche; maybe it is my sub-conscience telling me that a vegetarian main will balance out an over-indulgent pudding!

If you could go back in time what food would you tell your younger self to try sooner?

I really wish I had discovered the possibilities of vegetarian and vegan food earlier in my life. The amazing flavours that can be created from different combinations of ingredients and seasonings can create such appetizing meals!

What did you do before you worked for Suzanne James Catering?

I still do work part-time as a receptionist at a Higher Education College in London. The roles are very similar, in that you must have excellent customer service skills and provide a very high standard of assistance. Although at college there is (sadly) no food involved.

If you could dine with anyone, past or present who would it be?

My Dad. He passed away in 2008. He was such a special, important person in my life for so many reasons and I would love nothing more than to share another meal with him.

What do you like to do when you're not at work?

I like to spend simple time at home with my family. I enjoy going to the cinema to watch the latest 'rom-com', of course with a box of popcorn in my lap! I also enjoy walking for leisure and power walking for exercise. Whether it's 3 miles around my local park (that's my idea of 'keeping fit') or 5 miles out exploring different parts of London or a new city altogether.

What are your long term ambitions?

I am not studying at the moment, but I am always interested in doing short courses to improve my skills and expand my knowledge in the catering industry.

In your opinion what makes Suzanne James Catering different from other catering companies?

Oh my, where to start! Having worked for two other catering companies as well as freelance for a few chefs, over a period of 4 years now, Suzanne's reputation was very appealing. As a member of her team, I can safely say that her company far surpasses all expectations I had. The food is exceptionally good and the presentation is nothing short of stunning. You have to taste and experience this for yourself to really know what I mean.

Each event is organised superbly and flows without fault. I, myself, have very high standards and Suzanne James' company most definitely lives up to them.
