Meet the Team

Introducing Maria Haynes, Administrator (& one of Sue's Angels)

How long have you worked with us?

Hmmm, now there's a question!  I have known Suzanne since we were both teenagers, and consequently I have "helped" her with the business since what feels like the dawn of time! 

What do you do at SJHQ?

I am Sue's assistant, helping with enquiries and preparing quotations.  I am the office Excel expert (this is something of a double edged sword!!), and also I manage our Linked in account and other social networking connections.  I currently work part time as I have two young children (1 pre-schooler) but am working towards increasing my hours as they get older.

OK, but you mentioned that you have been "helping" Sue for years, so what else has she had you doing?!

Anyone who has been to Supper Club recently will probably recognise me as one of the Canape waitresses!  Back in the early days when the company was in its infancy and Sue was working as a freelance chef, preparing meals from her home kitchen I was always on hand to help her if needed (what else are friends for?). So I have been everything from a kitchen assistant or porter, to a waitress over the years! 

What do you love about your job?

I love the flexibility - my hours are set to work around family life, which is a luxury I know lots of companies would not be able to accommodate.  I really enjoy the challenge of the more unusual jobs.  No two events are ever the same, and it is always interesting to speak to new clients and to sculpt each quotation around their requirements.  It is great to work alongside a professional kitchen because the chefs love to feed us well, and are never happier than when we are telling them how much we enjoy our lovely lunches - it beats popping out to Pret every day!!  We are sooooo lucky!

What's your favourite food to eat?

In all honestly I love pretty much anything, apart from peppers. Given how much time I spend preparing meals at home for my family it is a real treat to be at work and have others cooking for me. 

If you could dine with anyone, past or present who would it be?

My husband, because we are always rushing around or eating with the children, so it would be a treat to sit down and have a candle lit dinner with him! 

What did you do before you worked for Suzanne James Catering?

Way back in the days before children I worked for Lloyds TSB in the Executive HR department in Central London.  I left work when I had my children and spent some time being a full time Mum before taking up my current role here.

What do you like to do when you're not at work?

I love socialising with my friends and doing stuff with my children.  You will quite often find me in the park with my wellies on!

In your opinion what makes Suzanne James different from other catering companies?

I am really proud to be part of a business that I have watched grow from the very beginning.  I know just how deep Suzanne's passion for great food and service runs, it really is the basis of everything she does and Graham is just as committed to this so they make a great team.  Working with people who really care about what they do makes a really big difference both within the business and for our customers..
