August 2017

At last - no more teasing! This newsletter is all about the launch of our Private Event Space, available for bookings from 1st September and opening with the welcome return of our very own East Dulwich Supper Club this month. However, we don't do anything by half, so as if this isn't enough excitement for one newsletter, read on to hear how the Horniman Conservatory (an exclusive Suzanne James venue) has received world wide recognition!

Introducing fifty seven by Suzanne James

It has been two years in the making, but finally I am incredibly proud (and bursting with excitement) to give you a sneaky peek behind the doors of my new event space!

Situated in the heart of leafy East Dulwich, fifty seven is a unique event space available for exclusive hire for up to 36 guests. With a secluded rear garden and fully equipped professional reheat kitchen the space is already proving to be incredibly popular with bookings flying in thick and fast from private clients, artists and local businesses.

We are full of great ideas for your event, however the really brilliant thing about fifty seven is that it is a blank canvas, which means it can be easily and uniquely styled for every client There's no end to the possibilities, and it has already been booked as a photographic studio, a pop up private dining room for a 30th birthday and for a christening celebration. At fifty seven it really is your event, you way!

Read on to find out more about how we will be celebrating the launch with the return of our long awaited East Dulwich Supper Club pop up, and our plans for the future including a local business hub, and the Suzanne James cookery school.

We will also be hosting bespoke, longer term special events on a case by case basis - rather like an 'artist in residence' - and are having lots of exciting conversations with potential guest stars at the moment.

We have some amazing launch deals available between now and Christmas so if you are planning a party and your house is just a little bit too small, or you are a company looking for a private space to hire please do give us a call, we really want fifty seven to be at the heart of the East Dulwich community and want to hear your ideas for how you'd like to use the space.

This is a dream that has been a long time in the making, but I truly hope that fifty seven will become synonymous with great food and service, and I very much look forward to entertaining many of you there soon.

The Suzanne James Cookery School

Well, here it is... The Suzanne James Cookery School at fifty seven.

Although still in its infancy, the Suzanne James Cookery School will be launched later this year and will be our opportunity to host mini food and drink master classes. We will also be scheduling private wine tastings, team building days for local businesses and children's cookery classes so if there is something you just can't get the hang of in the wonderful world of food then let us know and we will see what we can do to help.

We think small is beautiful so our cookery school at fifty seven has just 6 work stations as well as a chef station and will take a maximum of 12 students.

We are open to hosting external tutors too so if you are looking for a space to teach in then do get in touch.

We wil be releasing more details soon, so watch this space!

The Suzanne James Local Business Club

Calling local businesses, sole traders and those that work from home.....

Would you be interested in having access to a communal meeting space one day per week? Somewhere to work from that is very much a home from home.

Whilst there is, without question, no shortage of good cafes, restaurants and excellent eating establishments in East Dulwich, I am considering opening a business hub at fifty seven whereby we offer a social yet professional environment with complimentary tea, coffee and cake for a monthly subscription.

If this would be of interest to you please email us with your name and contact details.

Horniman Conservatory voted one of the "22 Best Garden Wedding Venues in The World"!

It isn't every day that you receive an email that brings the entire office to a standstill, but when The Venue Report wrote to tell us about their feature in Harper's Bazaar it is fair to say that we all downed tools for a celebration!

The beautiful Grade II Listed Horniman Conservatory was placed at 7th in the list of the worlds best garden wedding venues and we really couldn't be prouder!

Since the article was published our feet haven't touched the ground; with wedding enquiries coming in from Europe and the USA too, we are just waiting to see how long it is until news reaches Australia - it is almost one of the seven wonders of the world now after all!

Supporting Young Talent - Thank You Paris!

We would like to say a big thank you to up and coming photographer Paris Young, who kindly helped us with the gorgeous photos of fifty seven in this newsletter.

Since her early years Paris has always had an interest in photography and being able to visualise how others see the world through the lens. It is only recently that Paris has decided to take a step forward and to develop her hobby into a career.

Working with Paris it is clear to see the enjoyment she gets from being able to capture special moments, which can so easily pass you by in the midst of a party - Paris says this is what makes her job not only a hobby but a true passion! It's more then just a click of a button, it's about being involved in the moment and capturing that special shot each and every time.

We are sure that Paris is destined for great things and look forward to working with her on many future events. Email Paris to find out more

Food News - North Sea Cod taken off the endangered list

We are delighted to hear that North sea cod is back on the menu after being taken off endangered list.

Stocks of the fish have recovered after years of disastrous overfishing but the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) has warned that cod may never return to its pre-collapse glory days.

More effort is still needed to boost boost populations to healthy levels, and for now it should only be eaten very occasionally, and we wont be putting it back onto our menus as a result of this advice. Read more
