February 2017

January, Ginuary, Gymuary, Justbusyuary! Never had such a busy one! No sale shopping for us just great food, good parties and lots of planning!

When a VIP hotel chain book you for their Christmas party (deferred to January as is often necessary when you work in the hospitality industry) then you know it must be your year. And that's exactly what we are predicting for 2017 with over 50% of our expected bookings already in place it looks as though we are going to be busier than ever. In fact, over the Christmas break we had 87 wedding enquiries, 31 corporate enquiries and 40 private enquiries. Of course we know that enquiries don't always mean bookings, however an amazing 72% have already confirmed and many of the remaining 38% are still discussing their proposals with us. If you are planning an event then please do get in touch as soon as possible as many prime June and July dates have already closed and we hate having to turn customers away.

Our two year, two phase kitchen project is now completed and we'd like to thank our army (well team but it felt like an army) of men and women who made it all happen. They were here from morning through to night and worked tirelessly to ensure we were back up and running for our return to work on January 4th. Now we are even more efficient than before, with state of the art technology and teamwork enabling us to respond to the huge number of enquiries in a flash!

Now it's time to don my Hard Hat yet again as work is starting on our Northcross Road Shop where we will be offering something a little different that will also compliment other local businesses. So watch this space! :)

At the moment I am hard at work finalising our 2017 menus :-) It is always frustrating not to be able to share them sooner, but every year in January many of our suppliers review their prices, and having not reviewed or increased our own significantly for several years I felt this year it was a job that had to be tackled head on :-(

With the UK being an island, despite our policy of using seasonal, sustainable produce there are certain ingredients that have to be imported, and now, in addition to standard supplier price increases we are finding that Brexit is also having an impact. Transparency and sharing are important cornerstones of our business and this includes being honest with our customers. Therefore it seems only right to explain why there is a delay in getting this years menus finalised, and also why some of our prices will sadly rise. We use the best (and therefore sometimes costly) ingredients, many of which are organic. We never compromise on quality, use Fairtrade products, organic meat and line-caught local fish. We offset this by offering seasonal menus, allowing us to purchase ingredients when they are most plentiful, at their best, and usually less expensive. The menus are almost complete, and I can't wait to share them with you, and indeed to cook them for you. I hope you will forgive the delay.....creative genius at can't hurry a good thing!!

Without further delay I shall leave you to enjoy the rest of our news below - not least of which is our March Supper Club news!

Best wishes,

Suzanne James

Romance is in the air!

Without fail, February is the most romantic month of the year and we love, love, love it!

In 2016 we helped over 50 Couples tie the knot and with almost the same amount already confirmed for 2017, and the 2018 bookings now flooding in our wedding planners are certainly being kept busy.

From an intimate wedding for just 2 with our staff as witnesses through to a colossal Greek wedding for 400, we were there to support our couples through every step from planning to perfecting, and onwards to the pinnacle of their perfect day!

One of the great advantages of booking Suzanne James as your caterer is that alongside the fantastic food you are also tapping into a wealth of knowledge and experience, not to mention our extensive list of useful contacts. Your wedding is such an important day that knowing you have booked reliable event professionals with a proven track record is invaluable. Our list includes florists, DJ, musicians, dress makers, sommeliers, cake makers, photographers, camper van photo booths and vintage London buses to name but a few.

We also offer a venue finding service and can often secure preferential rates by introducing you, as our client, to your final wedding venue, so it is good to get in touch the minute that diamond is on your finger; we really are the team to have on board!

It isn't all about weddings....we love our corporate clients too! We are offering up to 20% off your events taking place before the end of March.

Remember that we offer a venue finding service too and can often secure preferential rates by taking you, as our client, to an event space, so it is good to get in touch as soon as possible. We have excellent relationships with our venues and can negotiate on your behalf, leaving you with extra money to spend on the fun stuff like champagne and canap├ęs!

Sustainable Restaurant Association focuses on Coffee

Coffee is the most popular drink in the world. More than 400 billion cups are consumed each year globally, and in the UK we drink 70 million cups each day.

We are proud to be members of the Sustainable Restaurant Association and fully support the amazing work they do in helping the industry as a whole embrace sustainability.

In February, as part of their 'Food Made Good' campaign they dedicated the whole month to supporting global farmers and asking the sector to commit to sourcing ethical coffee.

This is something very close to our hearts, as we have been proudly serving Volcano Coffee for several years now. This local roastery takes flavour and sourcing very seriously. Their purchasing process includes direct connection to the farmer, allowing them to give feedback to help improve crops, and to understand the land, environment and processing of the coffee as well as the story about the farmers themselves. Most importantly of all the farmers receive a more-than-fairtrade price.

So what can you do? Well, you can buy from Volcano as a member of the public, but also look out for suppliers marked with the Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance or UTZ logo.
