"Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile"

So said Franklin P. Jones, and he must be right because we almost didn't have a chance to write the newsletter for February.... it has been so busy with wedding enquires. Finding time to write this has been nigh on impossible but we wouldn't let you down!

We already have confirmed business in 2018 that equals 41% of last years turnover with some weekends through the Summer now completely booked. For those that are pondering, please, please don't delay in confirming your event date with us.

We are often asked what our top wedding planning tip is, and now seems like an opportune time to share it again - we always advise that you talk to us about your venue first as we have great relationships and will gladly act on your behalf. Once you have secured us, your venue and your entertainment you can take your time over the rest. Definitely don't wait until January to book your venue - our enquiries more than quadruple at this time of year, which shows just how many people do this, and it means you are much less likely to secure the date you want.

No sooner is the flurry of January wedding enquiries over, than Love is most definitely in the air again as Valentines Day approaches. As I write this the snow is falling, so it is just as well that we have a good reason to cuddle up with those we love later this month! If you are planning your own special Valentines meal click here for the perfect napkin fold.

If you love cheese almost as much as you adore your beloved then how about having a Suzanne James Cheese Wedding Cake on your big day?

This is a great way to combine costs, as you can still get the classic 'cutting of the cake' photo, then later your cake will be magically transformed by our chefs into an amazing evening Cheese Stall that includes crackers, 'picky fruit' and even home made chutneys to delight you and your guests.

In our experience cheese is much more popular than cake at this point in the day, so it really does make both financial and foodie sense!

Of course we don't just specialise in weddings. Our corporate clients are planning Executive Dinners, Networking Events and Summer Parties and our private clients are planning Dinner Parties and special Birthday Celebrations! It is no surprise that the months and years fly by for us as we are already discussing 2019 and 2020 dates!

Some of you know that I am trying to be vegetarian! I have good days and 'not quite so good days', but there is no ignoring the shift we have seen in recent years with more and more clients asking for vegetarian or vegan menus - even Deliveroo vegan deliveries have gone up by 147% over the past year! So, there is nothing like experiencing something first hand, and over the past few months I have been trying to make it my mission to follow a vegetarian diet. I have also been along to quite a few vegetarian and vegan Supper Club nights, which has been fascinating. Have you made the switch already? If so I would love to hear your top tips via our Twitter or Facebook accounts!

"Well Hello Dolly......."
My 'new baby' (apart from my Chihuahua, Dame Dolly of Dulwich!) is our venue fifty seven by Suzanne James. I am so pleased to see that it is going from strength to strength with a whole host of events happening throughout February, and March is filling up fast too. I am absolutely delighted to see my dream becoming a reality - to create a space that can be at the heart of the community, being used in so many different and exciting ways - read on to find out more!

Finally, I would like to wish the best of luck to Katie, one of our amazing chef team who is moving forward in her career to work in a groundbreaking restaurant in the heart of London, run by one of Britain's most respected and acclaimed chefs, Skye Gyngell. We've had a fabulous year with Katie and we know she will go from strength to strength. .

Best wishes,

Suzanne James

New Corporate & Wedding Venue - Asia House

Situated in an enviable central London location, Asia House is available to hire for all kinds of events. 63 New Cavendish Street is a grade II* listed Georgian townhouse, with restored period features throughout and a purpose-built art gallery.

The function rooms at Asia House are an excellent choice for conferences, AGMs and presentations for up to 100 people.

With natural light and flexible space, the Fine Rooms work extremely well for conferences, round table discussions and workshops. The Library and Hutchison Room provide ideal spaces for more smaller board meetings, lunches and breakout spaces for large events whilst the Gallery provides a contemporary space for business events and discussions, well-suited to product launches, press events and presentations.

Asia House is icensed for wedding ceremonies. Exclusive hire of the Georgian townhouse guarantees the perfect backdrop to your wedding. With moulded high ceilings, marble fireplaces and shimmering crystal chandeliers, the former townhouse is an oasis of calm and elegance just ten minutes from Oxford Circus or Marylebone High Street.

The Fine Rooms, situated at the top of the sweeping, central staircase, allow elaborate dressing to create a flamboyant day, while the period features require nothing but the simplest decoration for those with a taste for the understated. For smaller ceremonies and receptions, the Asia House Library and Hutchison Room offer a more peaceful and intimate space.

The myriad of elegant rooms provide the ideal space for canapé receptions, dinners and cocktail receptions. A banquet for up to 120 may be served in the Fine Rooms or the beautiful Library can be booked for a more intimate dinner for up to 40.

We have got off to a flying start and already have over 50 members, a full committee and an exciting, varied programme of events lined up for 2018.

We meet on the second Monday of the month (except August) at Dulwich Constitutional Club, 33 East Dulwich Grove, East Dulwich, London SE22 8PW

If you would like to come along then we would love to meet you. It is £3.00 guest entry plus any charge for an event (if something special has been organised). On 12th February we have Majestic Wine joining us for a wine and chocolate pairing event. Guests are welcome to join us at this event at a ticket price of £13.00 which includes the door entry fee. If the event isn't for you then do come along anyway for a drink and a chat, cake (of course) and the chance to win something wonderful in our raffle.

Should you design to join the group the annual membership fee is £42 but this is pro rata so the price reduces as we move through the year.

Goose Green Primary School - Green Screen Project

This month we had the amazing news that following a Mayor of London grant of almost £12,000 Goose Green Primary School have reached their fundraising target for their  'Green Screen Project'!

FOGGS (Friends of Goose Green School) have now raised sufficient funds to install a 'Green Screen' of pre-grown ivy that will provide the school playground with a barrier against air pollution and help protect the long-term health of the children.  So many have helped make this possible - from parents, carers and friends, local businesses, community groups and politicians. Special thanks to the Dulwich Society, Winkworth Estate Agents, Suzanne James Catering and Lightbox London Limited for their generous sponsorships.

The Green Screen will run the entire boundary length of our playground along Grove Vale and will stand 2.2m high.  Green Screens are made of living ivy and have a dual effect, both blocking pollutants as a barrier at vehicle exhaust height and actually capturing them on the surface area of the leaves. The pollutants captured are then washed away by rain, allowing the ivy leaves to repeat the process.  A Green Screen can reduce street-level concentrations of nitrogen dioxide by as much as 40% and up to 60% for particulate matter (PM).  Because the ivy is pre-grown and full height the impact will be immediate and, as it matures and thickens, the benefit will increase.
Every child at Goose Green will be breathing cleaner, safer air straight away and the screen will benefit the local community with its aesthetic, environmental and air cleansing properties. It is also a fantastic educational tool for teachers and parents. A living testament to the remarkable power of nature.

The aim to to install the Green Screen over the course of three community planting days in half term from 15th -17th February 2018.  A team of urban greening specialists will work alongside parents, children and community members.  This is not just for the school, it is a project that will benefit the entire community, so we think it is important to involve as many people as possible. We've been thrilled by the enthusiasm shown by the children and parents of Goose Green, local residents and businesses - it shows what can be achieved when everyone pulls together.

The school would love to have as many friends and families as possible involved in the community planting days.  The Green Screen experts will provide all equipment and FOGGS will have a warm-up room available with free refreshments and stories to entertain the children while the adults get stuck in!  Don't be shy - this will be a fun project to be part of and the results will be very rewarding.

To register your interest, please contact info@goosegreenpta.org
