June.....how did we do that?!

This month I am dedicating the newsletter to my amazing team as I want to pay tribute to each and every one of them. So rather than tell you about what we have been up to I am going to tell you about how we have only been able to do anything because of the entire team - office, kitchen, front of house, back of house. I want to give you a little insight into the back pages of my business......

By the miracle of teamwork and with huge thanks to each and every person involved we boiled, baked and barbecued our way through the month of June yet again. With 8 or more events a week going out at any time from dawn to dusk there were inevitably some fraught moments, and a few cross words! But like all good families, we live to tell the tale, cook another day, cut another cake and smile our way through.

Our planners are there in the years, months, weeks and even days leading up to each event, they hand the menu to our kitchen team who make the plan a reality, and the event file to the Manager who makes it all happen on the day. Our wonderful kitchen porters are ever present, they load, unload, lug, clean, clear and put everything away again afterwards, often on a Sunday or Monday when the rest of us are recovering. If we are doing our job well then chances are you are blissfully unaware of most of this, and probably only really have a vague recollection of your Event Manager, if anyone at all, and that makes us happy!

Everyone, and I really do mean everyone, in my business plays such an important role that I honestly believe we would not be able to do what we do without them.

From our more than full time chefs to our trainee waiting staff, every person plays their part in the Suzanne James 'event machine'. I am overwhelmed by their commitment and enthusiasm; it is what enables us to continue to boast about our meticulous planning, exquisite dishes and enviable service levels.

We take time to understand every clients brief, serving up dream events with precision. We are the first to arrive and the last to leave and we only consider ourselves to have done an acceptable job when we exceed all expectations!

I am so proud of my team, but I don't always have time to tell them, at least now it is said and shared...

#teamworkmakesthedreamwork

Thank you all of you for the Weddings at the Garden Museum, Weddings at Queens House, Weddings at the Horniman Museum & Gardens, Weddings at the Cutty Sark, Launch of the London Cat Clinic, Corporate Bash at Bankside Gallery, Parties in private homes, Corporate events at the Cutty Sark, the Corporate party at Fitzroy Square, Directors dining in private offices, the Charity party at the Garden Museum, the Birthday Party at the Museum of the Order of St John, Trooping the Colour and last but not least, that very special VIP dinner under a famous painting. It has been one heck of a month!

Sadly I can't feature every single person below, but read on to find out more about some of the core team members.....

Best wishes,

Suzanne James

Amanda

Amanda is our Horniman Museum & Gardens Event Planner, she knows everything there is to know about this venue! She also does all our invoicing, compiles the newsletter, manages the office and updates our website. To make up for all the amazing staff lunches you will find her in the gym for about 6 hours a week, and when she isn't there or at work she's busy looking after her daughters!

Maria

Maria grew up as Suzanne's next door neighbour! She is Amanda's right hand girl, helping to pull together the Horniman events. As if that isn't enough she is our in house HR & wages person, which make her very popular! Maria is brilliant at finding the right staff for the right event so is quite often to be found doing a bit of 'staff wrangling'. Outside of work Maria is a super mummy to a gorgeous son and daughter and seems to spend a good deal of her free time plaiting her daughter's hair!

Harri

Harri is really Clare Harrison, but as we already had a Claire in the office she adopted a pseudonym! She used to work at Le Manoir and we feel more than a little bit lucky to have persuaded her to come and work for us instead! She is an amazing Event Planner and Manager and is also our 'go to' girl when it comes to cocktail recipes! When she isn't hard at work she seems to be mostly found at concerts or playing rugby. Thankfully she has never had to tackle a guest, or even an escaping Groom!

Claire

Claire has been working as an Event Manager with us for as long as we can remember! A couple of years ago we managed to persuade her to take on an office/event planner role too which is brilliant. This makes for a very busy life, juggling late finishes at venues with early starts in the office, but if anyone can do it Claire's your girl! Claire is also a demon seamstress, and a salsa dancer but doesn't do both at the same time!

Dan

Dan is mostly office based, planning corporate events and special promotions. He is massively outnumbered by females in the office but copes admirably! He is also the only one who consistently manages to resist eating any of the 'naughty' food, serious willpower! When he isn't at work he is mostly to be found at the gym, or playing computer games!

Natalia

Natalia is our amazing head chef. She comes from Galicia in Northern Spain and is determined and passionate about her chosen career. The handover between event planner and chef team is crucial and Natalia oversees it with an iron rod - we would be lost without her! We could happily eat Natalia's Spanish Omelette every day, but she rations us!

Tommy

You could say that Tommy has grown up with us! What started out as a weekend/part time job because a summer job, with breaks to go and work ski seasons catering in chalets. Now (we hope) he is back to stay with us for a little longer. We may need to confiscate his salopettes!

Oliver

Oliver is nearing the end of his first year with us working as an apprentice chef. He has come along in leaps and bounds and is keen to specialise as a pastry chef. He has just found out that he has secured his place next year at Westminster College specialising in patisserie. This means we get to eat lots of cake - hurrah!

Callum

Callum is also nearing the end of his first year as an apprentice chef. He is passionate about Japanese food and dreams of opening his own restaurant one day.

James

James is our longest serving and most senior Event Manager. He spends most of his summer weekends at the Horniman Museum & Gardens and is better at 'guest wrangling' than anyone you will ever meet! Just give the man a schedule and he will make it happen. Always calm in a crisis and never one to be flustered by an unexpected vegetarian guest, or even a late running bride! We suspect he may actually have a big S on his vest under that shirt and tie....but you didn't hear it from us!
