51 Sleeps!

The clocks have gone back, the dark nights are upon us, and Christmas is approaching. I am sure that time goes faster in November and December - how is that possible?!

As a chef this time of year is so exciting; lots of family meals to plan (which means an opportunity to try out new recipes too), and wonderful client Christmas parties approaching.

As part of your festive preparations don't forget that Sunday 20th November is "Stir it up Sunday" a tradition that harks back to Victorian times. It is when the family should gather together to stir the Christmas pudding and make a wish - and it is said they will come true, so get stirring!

There has been a lot of talk about the environment in the news recently. It is fantastic to hear that since the 5p carrier bag charge came into effect their use has dropped by 85%. This is a really massive step forward, and I hope some of you are finding our lovely 'Keep Calm' bags useful, I do spot them out and about and it always puts a smile on my face.

The next step is to tackle the use of other disposables like forks, crockery, straws and coffee cups - you can sign a petition here to help with this.

This week I stumbled across a lovely story about a Cornish fisherman who caught a huge Bluefin Tuna, worth thousands on the black market, and (quite rightly) threw it back to sea. If you haven't seen the photos take a look here - it was quite a fish!

Whilst on the subject of protecting our seafood, I also need to put a shout out for our very own supplier and fellow members of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, Southbank Fresh Fish - who were featured in a recent article for their brilliant, ethical and sustainable approach - good work guys, we are so proud to work with you! See the article here.

In other news, in October I had to don my Canapé Queen crown to cook for royalty once again.... I can't say where, and I can't say when, but this seems to be becoming a regular occurrence. Surely it can only be a matter of time until we have that royal seal of approval on our vans!!

Our very special East Dulwich Supper Club on Tour, in the 17th Century "House of Delight" Queens House in Greenwich is only 10 days away now. (Note yet more regal is fate)! We are all getting excited about a Supper Club like no other, to include music and lighting by DJ for Me, and flowers by Karen Woolven. Queen's House is Inigo Jones's architectural masterpiece, built in 1616 and now celebrating its 400th anniversary, it has reopened after major restoration. The evening will include a tour of the house, including the chance to get a close up view of the new gold leaf ceiling in the Great Hall, by Turner Prize-winner Richard Wright, and many other rare, and previously unseen works of art including the iconic Armada Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I which is on permanent display for the first time. Exclusive after dinner fireworks will round off the evening in grand style. There are just a few tickets left now, available via Grub Club so don't miss this once in a lifetime experience - get your seats now!!

For those who have been asking about our December Supper Club - details and the booking link are below. We have been blown away by how many of you have already expressed interest - it is lovely to know so many people are looking forward to our last #EDSC of the year - and we hope the date works for you.

This week we started making Christmas Cakes - here is the first one out of the oven. Have you made yours yet? Share your photos with us on Facebook or Twitter!

If you haven't booked us for your party or wedding yet there is still time, but the clock is ticking. Call my lovely team of Event Planners, Dan, Amanda, Harri, Maria and Claire, they were all born to plan and can't wait to take your call!

Best wishes,

Suzanne James

Walking with the Wounded Charity Dinner

On a chilly Autumn night in October we were invited to organise a dinner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea for the charity Walking with the Wounded to thank their supporters.

Working for a very prestigious charity, with such important guests to be thanked for their support it was vital that we did something extra special. We wanted to offer an exquisite, seasonal menu at the best possible price to ensure a truly wonderful evening was had by all.

The event was held in the State Apartments which meant we had use of their amazing in house kitchen and back of house facilities, plus the kind support of our regular suppliers for the hired equipment. This allowed us to offer exceptional table design at an incredible rate.

We must also thank the Fresh Flower Company for the generous loan of their mercury votives for battery operated candles - the perfect finishing touch for this beautiful setting.

The menu included Hendricks Gin and Dill cured Salmon with Cucumber, Belly of Suffolk Pork (cooked sous vide), Fondant Potatoes and Roasted Baby Carrots and guests enjoyed individual Cheeseboards to round off the evening.

Should you wish to know more about events at Royal Hospital Chelsea or are thinking of hosting a dinner for your charity then please do contact us.
