Keep Warm & Eat Cake!

This week (October 2nd to the 8th) is National Cake Week. What joy! I am never one to miss out on an opportunity to;
a. bake
b. eat cake or
c. look at lovely pictures of cakes

So this is one of the best weeks of the year for me!

Talking of cake, there has been a lot of it around recently! On the 18th September I was invited along to meet the wonderful ladies of the Nunhead W.I. to talk to them about my life as a businesswoman, chef and mother. I took canapés and they brought cake - what could be better? Thank you ladies, I loved meeting you!

Yet more cake was consumed last Friday at our hugely successful Macmillan Coffee Morning (more on that below), and then again this week with the start of two regular events at fifty seven. On Mondays we are now host to Takes A Village, a social enterprise supporting the well being of new parents, and on Tuesdays the East Dulwich Business Club! More details on both below.

I am so delighted to see my dream of owning and running a widely used, privately hired community space coming true. Our Happy Place...... I like nothing better at the moment than hanging out at fifty seven, so many of you are popping in to say hello and have a look around, it is hard to drag myself away. It feels like there is a real buzz of excitement, fuelled I am sure by coverage in the local press. Thank you all of you for the amazing support.

Later in this newsletter you will find details of our October and November East Dulwich Supper Club dates along with a link to book your seats. On both dates we will be sending every guest home with a bottle as a special treat. Read on to find out more!

A quick update on our Apprentices..... The chefs recently completed their first year with us and passed with flying colours. Callum has joined us full time while Oliver continues as a second year apprentice, now specialising as a Pastry Chef. We are so proud of them, and also delighted to hear that the Hospitality & Culinary Arts Apprenticeships Department at Westminster Kingsway College, where they trained, has achieved the Gold Standard Apprenticeship Provider accreditation. Well done, and richly deserved!

Enjoy the newsletter, have a fantastic Halloween, and remember, for us the devil is always in the detail, so read on to find out all the latest news! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Macmillan Coffee Morning - Thank you!

We had an amazing day last Friday at fifty seven.

So many of you came along to our "Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning" in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support to enjoy tea, coffee, cakes, and a sneaky manicure courtesy of Emma Robyn.

Our prize draw proved to be incredibly popular, with tickets selling fast throughout the day.

You are all totally brilliant, without you we simply couldn't have done it! By the end of the day we had raised an amazing, whopping total of just over £1,360 - almost tripling our target!

Thank you.

Happy Birthday East Dulwich WI!!

East Dulwich residents may be surprised to learn that there is a local social club that's so in demand, the waiting list to join is well over 100 places long.

The club is in fact the East Dulwich WI, which is celebrating its first decade this year. It was launched in 2007 by former president Katie Arnold, now a busy mum of three, when she was new to the area and didn't know many people.

President Anna Gryce explained to the Dulwich Diverter why the group is so popular among local women ........

Introducing Luci

If you are passing fifty seven on a Monday or Tuesday be sure to say hello to Luci, our new Venue Manager. You will also find her running our East Dulwich Supper Club evenings.

Luci has been working with us for the past two years whilst studying photography at college and she is every bit as happy behind the camera as she is front of house!

We have handed over the keys to Luci, who we know will do an amazing job - this girl can do anything, having recently photographed her best friends wedding, whilst also carrying out the role of did she do must be that little bit of SJ magic that we sprinkled her with!

Welcome Luci!
