The Asylum Chapel is a grade 2 listed building built in 1826 by the Licensed Victualers Benevolent Institution for use by the residents of Caroline Gardens. These residents were made up of retired workers of the alcohol trade. Bombed in WWII, the present use of the chapel is as a flexible space which can be hired for photographic and film shoots and for exhibitions, theatre, weddings and funerals.

The grand entrance has beautiful steps leading up to a portico with columns and tomb-like tapered giant doorsideal for wedding day photos. The chapel is situated in the middle of a large garden, with Georgian alms houses all around it. The gardens make a beautiful and peaceful backdrop for a wedding.

Inside, the beautifully distressed walls are extremely photogenic and the large hall area offers many possibilities for set-up and styling.

A table can be installed in the hall for signing purposes. The chapel can be dressed with candles and lighting for you, and your own florist/ friend/wedding party can pop along to dress the venue further from 8am on the morning of your wedding.

The Chapel is suitable for weddings up to approximately 150 seated for a meal, or 250 for ceremony. Due to its location in a largely elderly estate, all events must finish by 9.30pm.

The Chapel has its own natural acoustics and works well with un-amplified instruments if you are considering amplified music this must be agreed in advance.
